- November 13 - December 14: New Theatre presents the world premier of The Gates of Choice by Michelle Rosenfarb. The play centers around a Hasidic young woman in an Israeli ultra orthodox upbringing who if facing an arranged marriage. The woman finds refuge in a taboo relationship with an ex-Haredi soldier. Performance times are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. Tickets cost $35 for Thursday evenings, $40 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday matinee and $15 for students with ID. - Through December 27: Enjoy a special holiday performance specifically orchestrated for young audiences. The Actors' Playhouse at Miracle Theatre for Young Audiences presents A Christmas Carol, the Musical! This wonderful play is a family oriented musical adaptation of a classic that aims at changing Ebeneezer Scrooge and his “Bah-Humbug” ways. The play takes place Saturdays at 2 p.m. at the Actors' Playhouse located at Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile. A special holiday performance will be held on December 21 at 5 p.m. and December 24 at 7 p.m. General admission is $15. - December 3 - January 4: The Actors' Playhouse presents a play that will have you laughing this holiday season. Gutenberg! The Musical!, which is being called a smashing success by the New York Times, centers around two aspiring, funny and highly energetic playwrights pitching their big, splashy musical to prospective producers. Performances are held Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Admission for weeknights and matinees is $40 and on Friday and Saturday evenings admission costs $48. A ten percent discount is offered for seniors the day of the performance and $15 student rush tickets are sold 15 minutes before curtain call. The Actors' Playhouse is located at 280 Miracle Mile. - December 5, 6, 12 & 13: The young actors from Miami Childrens Theater are ringing in the holiday season with the hilarious performance The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! The play revolves around the six problematic Herdman siblings and their insistence on being cast in the major roles of the annual Christmas Pageant. The whole town is horrified and what ensues will have you talking for days. The performance takes place in the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center Theater, 405 University Drive, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $12 - $20. For more information, click here.

- January 25: The Chopin Foundation of the U.S. presents pianist Spencer Myer. This musical concert will take place at Granada Presbyterian Church located at 950 University Drive at 3 p.m. This event is open to the public. For more information, call 305-284-4941.

- May 17: The Chopin Foundation of the U.S. presents pianist Claire Huangci. This musical concert will take place at Granada Presbyterian Church located at 950 University Drive at 3 p.m. This event is open to the public. For more information, call 305-284-4941.
- Fridays: Enjoy Live music in the Garden of the Village with a multicultural mix of Jazz, Bossa Nova, World Music, Flamenco, Classics, Pop, Contemporary and Latin Grooves. Every Friday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., guests can listen to the light musical styles while enjoying all the shopping center has to offer including world class boutiques, fine dining and light bites. - December 3 - 9: The Junior Orange Bowl Committee celebrates the 22nd anniversary of the Caroling Competition. Come to the building located at 550 Biltmore Way to feel the Christmas spirit as temperatures outside drop. More than 1,500 public, private, and parochial school students will sing holiday music in a competition that pays a prize worth $20,000. Middle schools perform on Wednesday and Friday, December 3 & 5 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Senior Highs perform on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday December 4, 6 & 7, and final performance on Tuesday, December 9, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to general public. - December 5: Enjoy Gallery Night in the Gables every first Friday of the month and later head over to Ponce Circle Park, 2810 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, for Art in the Park. Enjoy art and music under the stars. An artist village exhibits paintings, sculptures, fine jewelry and for the children, a free "Little Picasso's" art lesson. The event is free. - December 7: The Chopin Foundation of the U.S. presents pianist Yuliana Avdeeva. This musical concert will take place at Granada Presbyterian Church located at 950 University Drive at 3 p.m. This event is open to the public. For more information, call 305-284-4941.
- December 7: Get into the holiday spirit with Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden's Holiday Music at Fairchild. Enjoy one of the season's finest concerts from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the garden. Senior Activities
- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: Exercising was never easier than this!!! Now seniors can enjoy their aerobic routine while combining dancing in the 60 minute Dancercise class. Instructed by senior volunteer Belkis Frangente, the class features stretching, light aerobics and easy to follow dancing movements with music from across the globe. Senior residents pay $4 per month and non-residents $9 per month. Classes begin at 10 a.m. in the Adult Activity Center located at University Baptist Church, 624 Anastasia Avenue. - Mondays: Come and start your day early with a group of friends and a cup of coffee at the Morning Coffee Club. Catch up on the latest news and chat with friends to energize your week. Morning Coffee Club takes place every Monday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Coral Gables Adult Center - University Baptist Church 624 Anastasia Avenue. No fee or registration required.
- Wednesdays: Join old friends and meet new ones during a pleasant, sociable lunch. Let's Do Lunch! is held every Wednesday at 12 noon at the Chapel of University Baptist Church located at 624 Anastasia Avenue. Fee is $5 per person. - Second Monday of Month: The Coral Gables Fire Department is offering free monthly blood pressure screening for individuals 55 and older. Just pass by the Coral Gables Adult Activity Center between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
- Thursdays: The City of Coral Gables Senior Division now offers Computers Classes for individuals 55 and over. Seniors can learn the basics of computers. The classes are for real beginners. Classes are being taught by TechXperts of Miami at the Adult Activity Center located at 624 Anastasia Avenue. The program consists of a three week session with classes in the mornings or afternoons. - 4th Thursday of the Month: Working late? Want to socialize with others? Don't have time to cook? ‘Let's Do Dinner!' is a special program for active seniors 55 and older to enjoy a great meal together. Participants meet at select restaurants at 6 p.m. and each pays their own bill. Register by calling Anastasia Smith at 305-460-5609. Upcoming dates are: July 31st, Spris/ August 28th, Houston's/ September 25th, Sakura/ October 30th, Books and Books Café.
- 2nd & 4th Monday: The silver screen comes to the Coral Gables Adult Activity Center, 624 Anastasia Avenue. Watch a movie and enjoy light refreshments for free for Movie Days. Movies start at 1 p.m. Now showing: August 26 – The Namesake (2006)/ September 8 – The Pursuit of Happiness (2006)/ September 22 – Man of the Year (2006)/ October 13 – Iron Will (1994)/ October 27 – Tell Me a Riddle (1980).
- December 19: Experience the spectacular holiday The Nutcracker by famed producer George Balanchine. A bus will depart from the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Drive, at 6:30 p.m. and bound for the Arsht Center. The cost of the event is $65 which includes transportation and a ticket for a great seat. December 10 is the last day to register for the trip. To register or for more information, call 305-460-5609.

- Tuesdays: Learn everything about acrylic and oil painting in these fun classes that welcome beginners and experienced artist. This is a great opportunity to explore your talent and develop new techniques. Classes start from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Coral Gables Senior High School, Adult Education Center, 450 Bird Road. - Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: Always wanted to be a chorus girl? Join the Almost Broadway classes at St. Philip's Church, 1142 Coral Way, from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Exercise while dancing easy routines from Broadway shows! - Wednesdays and Sundays: Come and enjoy, Celebrate -curated by Arva Moore Parks- an exhibition featuring artifacts from the early Coral Gables. This is a beautiful opportunity to learn about the unique history of our community and to preview a timeline exhibition to be housed in the new Coral Gables Museum. The event is free and open to the public from 1:00 to 4:00pm, at the sales office for the Old Spanish Village located at 2901 Ponce de Leon Boulevard. - Sundays: Learn everything about one of the most magnificent constructions in our City Beautiful during The Biltmore Hotel Historic Tours. The Dade Heritage proudly presents one of the most complete and interesting tours about the “Crowning Jewel” as George Merrick used to call it. - 2nd Friday of Month: Girl Scout Troop #373 will host American Girl Fridays at the Barnes & Noble of Coral Gables. Each month will feature a different American Girl character, whose life and lessons will be discussed. A Girl Scout costumed as the featured American Girl will be present to lead the group. - Sundays: Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is offering free admission to all visitors on Sundays through the month of September (except for September 14). It's the perfect opportunity to walk Fairchild's grounds, have a family picnic or simply sit on a bench and read your favorite book while overlooking 83 acres of lush tropical paradise. - First Friday of the Month: Art lovers flock to Coral Gables the first Friday of every month for Gallery Night. Boasting dozens of galleries, Coral Gables is the premier destination for art and cultural events. The City offers free trolley service to most of the galleries locations from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Some galleries may feature musicians for your entertainment. - Through May 31: Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden presents an outdoor exhibition of five massive sculptures from renowned artist Mark di Suvero, including the never before exhibited Olompali. The sculptures in the exhibition are on loan from the Mark di Suvero Collection. Di Suvero''s arresting pieces consistently drawn critical acclaim, and confront audiences with their audacious colors and shapes and mesmerize crowds with their energy and intricate proportion. Fairchild''s unique landscape provides the perfect backdrop to truly reveal these massive structures. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is located at 10901 Old Cutler Road in Coral Gables. - March 6: The Coral Gables Museum continues its Architecture and Design Lecture Series with a presentation by author and UM Architecture Professor Rocco Ceo on Building Close to Nature: the Early Architecture of Dade County's Park System. Ceo will discuss the design and construction of Miam-Dade County's early park architecture and how it evolved through forest fires, hurricanes and the post-boom period of the 1930's. - April 3: The Coral Gables Museum continues its Architecture and Design Lecture Series with a presentation by author and historian Arva Moore Parks on The Villages: From the Craft Section to Old Spanish Village. Moore Parks will highlight the history of the architectural “village” theme and how it was at the heart of the City's plan. - November 22 - January 18: Get an overview of the life and work of Charles Biederman, an acclaimed American modernist who pioneered new geometric abstract art, during the exhibition Charles Biederman: An American Idealist. The touring exhibition taking place at the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami features a broad array of paintings and sculptures created during his career. - December 5: Christmas has arrived to Coral Gables with our traditional Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. On Friday December 5th, come out to the Merrick Park located at Biltmore Way in front of City Hall for an evening filled with fun. Starting at 5 p.m., enjoy plays performed by talented youngsters from the Actors' Playhouse and the Miami Children's Theater among others. There will also be carnival games, rides, face painting and Santa's Photos. The event ends at 10 p.m. and is open to the public.
- December 5: The non-profit organization “The Villagers” dedicated to the restoration and preservation of historic sites, invite you to the 2008 Holiday House Tour called Antiques and Architecture. The event will be held on Friday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and requires a $30 donation that includes a quilt raffle, boutique and light refreshments. Please purchase tickets by November 26. - December 5 - 23: It's that time of year to pay Ol' Saint Nick a visit! Children can visit Santa Claus at Merrick Park which is located in front of City Hall. Take a picture with Santa Thursdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays noon to 10 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday 22 - 23 from 5 – 10 p.m. Pictures with Santa costs just $6. - December 5: miArte Gallery presents its third annual International Juried Exhibition. A unique exhibition featuring 85 artists from around the world, with more than 100 separate canvases all 20" x 20", but created in different styles, with varying subjects and in various media. The range of artists represented in the show offers a colorful and diverse blend of emerging and mid-career artists. miArte Gallery is located at 85 Merrick Way. - December 7: The Coral Gables Garden Club is very excited to be offering a tour of the historic homes that line Coral Way. The 35 annual tour, "Treasures Under the Oaks" features beautifully decorated homes for the holidays, the Club's famous plant sale and a delicious bake sale. This event is one of the main fundraisers for the Garden Club and all proceeds support community and educational projects. Join the club in this special tour from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Merrick House, 907 Coral Way. The president of the club will be serving tea to guests at the Merrick House lawn. Advanced tickets cost $25. - December 7: Discover why Coral Gables is called the City Beautiful when you take a Coral Gables Architecture Walking Tour. This historic tour is presented by the Historical Museum of Southern Florida with guide Dr. Paul George. Meet at 4p.m. at the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue. Museum members pay $20, non-members pay $25. The tour highlights some of Coral Gables most noted landmarks including Miracle Mile, the Merrick House, the Biltmore Hotel and the DeSoto Fountain. - December 8: The Coral Gables Museum's first Fridays Architecture and Design Lecture Series continues as UM Architecture professor Joanna Lombard presents her fascinating research Built Environment and Health Team. The expert will discuss how urban planning and design affects the health of community residents. - December 9 & 10: NCCA, a Metlife Foundation and the UM Osher Lifelong Institute present the professional forum “Creativity Matters: Miami Arts and Aging Symposium on Lifelong Learning” oriented for artist, educators and aging service providers to discuss diverse instructional methods to engage older adults in creative work. - December 12 - 14: The Coral Gables Museum invites you to a special presentation featuring the work of all participants in the first Gingerbread House Contest. Admire the talent and creativity of the contestants inspired by a holiday spirit. A showcase featuring holiday photos from all generations and places will also be presented. The event is free and open to the public. The display will take place at the sales center for the Old Spanish Village project located at 2901 Ponce de Leon Boulevard. - December 13 - 14: Come visit the oldest in Coral Gables and pick up some beautiful handicrafts from around the world. A Fair Trade Marketplace Bazaar is taking place at the Coral Gables Congregational Church located at 3010 DeSoto Boulevard. On Saturday the marketplace will open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for more information, call 305-448-7421, extension 26.
- December 17 - 23: The most talented young tennis players come from all over the world to play at The Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship. This competition welcomes only the very best 12 & under and 14 & under, meeting face to face in very competitive matches. Many tennis starts participated in this prestigious tournament during their rise to fame including Kmi Clijsters, Andre Agassi, Ana Kournikova, and Monica Seles to name a few, The tournament will be taking place in different locations in Coral Gables and Miami, including the UM Schiff Tennis Center, and the Biltmore Tennis Center. - December 27 - 30: About 120 of the best junior golfers from around the world will be participating at the Orange Bowl International Golf Championship. This highly competitive event welcomes golfers based on their rankings within their country's golf federation, to ensure that only the top-ranking players will face in this exciting round of games. Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Inbee Park, Camilo Villegas, and Nick Price, are among the recognizable faces who've participated previously on this tournament. - December 30: The Junior Orange Bowl Committee presents its signature event the 60th Annual Junior Orange Bowl Parade, "Moon over Miami." This is a traditional event that brings together children and adults for a celebration along Downtown Coral Gables. Enjoy marching bands, colorful floats, and community groups united in a dazzling spectacle. The parade provides an opportunity for families to create delightful memories for their children, friends and neighbors as the end of the year approaches.
